Summit Hill man charged with assault

Published April 19. 2019 08:08AM

A Carbon County man was arrested earlier this week on domestic assault charges.

Summit Hill police responded to a home on N. Oak Street at 8:46 p.m. Wednesday for a domestic assault.

Officers spoke with a woman who said she got into an argument with Stephen J. Bilka, 49.

The woman said he became irate and smashed items in the home and punched out the glass in the back door.

She then attempted to leave the residence with Bilka following her outside and grabbing her by the neck and shoving her. Bilka then fled the home when she began to call 9-1-1.

At 9:52 p.m. Bilka was found walking in the area of Oak and Hazard streets and taken into custody. He was charged with two counts of simple assault and harassment. He was taken to the county prison in Nesquehoning, but has posted bail.
