Supervisors approve transfer of liquor license by Gerrity’s

Published December 20. 2017 11:50AM

A public hearing before the Chestnuthill Township Supervisors was held on the question of permitting the transfer of a liquor license into the township by Gerrity’s Supermarket.

Gerrity’s is looking to construct its building on property at the corner of Route 115 and State Road. The project, which has been in the works for nearly five years, has yet to break ground and is currently being held up in discussions between the property owner/developer and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

We know that this is putting the cart before the horse, attorney J. Fredrick Rohrbeck said on behalf of Gerrity’s. “But the PLCB wants us to move this license from the seller and into Gerrity’s possession.”

Rohrbeck explained that the license is a restaurant license from a Tobyhanna seller and will require Gerrity’s to have tables and chairs in the supermarket, but that the plan is mainly for the sale of beer and wine.

The transfer of the license was approved with a few stipulations, the main one being that the Gerrity’s would need to be constructed for the license to be used in the township.

The supervisors are also considering a Volunteer Service Tax Credit Program, which will confer a tax savings on volunteer firefighters in the township.

A public hearing will be held as part of the regular supervisors meeting on Feb. 20 regarding the proposed ordinance.

In addition, on Feb. 20, the supervisors will consider adopting an ordinance which will impose penalties for false/faulty fire alarms in the township.
