Tamaqua Area School Board

Tamaqua Area School Board, on an 8-0 vote with Director Eileen Meiser absent, took the following action on Tuesday:

• Expelled one high school student for violation of the discipline code.

• Approved a professional employee contract for Sabrina Gross, as of Dec. 19.

• Approved Joshua Hanrahan, Tori Laubenstine and Jennifer Treese as professional substitute guest teachers.

• Agreed to retain Jeff Bowe of Bowe, Lisella and Bowe, as the district’s solicitor, with a retainer of $5,200, and $175 per hour, which represents no increase from the current year.

• Approved the 2017-18 tuition rates as follows: Elementary, $8,397; secondary, $10,061; K-half day, $4,199.

• Approved the band director’s request to take the Raider Band on a trip to New York City on May 19. The trip will be funded by the Band Boosters.

• Approved the second reading of, and later the adoption of, policies related to Copyright Material and Internet Access.

• Approved the first readings of policies related to Introduction, Name and Classification, Authority and Powers, Functions, Membership, Organization, Student Representation, Meetings, Distribution, Organizational Chart, Policy Formulation/Development, Board Governance Standards/Code of Conduct, and Use of School Facilities.

• Approved the 2018-19 district calendar.
