Tamaqua Area school board
Tamaqua Area School Board approved the following Tuesday:
• All recommended 2018 graduates of Tamaqua High School, with the ceremony being set for June 5 at the high school.
• $15,000 in funds from the John E. Morgan Foundation for scholarships.
• Renewed the lease agreement with Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 for a year beginning July this year and ending June 2019 for additional classroom space.
• The sale of two parcels of land located on Brown Street in Tamaqua to Arthur Brenneman III for $2,248. The board also approved the 2018-19 Schuylkill IU budget for the upcoming school year.
• The board approved the following personnel requests: Michele Bittner’s resignation as West Penn grades 3-5 liaison teacher, retroactive to April 11; the appointment of Dawn Walsh as Tamaqua Elementary special education teacher liaison at a stipend not yet determined; Barbara Swartz as a highly qualified part-time paraprofessional effective May 9; Michele Bittner as the 2018-19 band front silk adviser; Jen Curcio as the Tamaqua High School National Honors Society adviser and Emily Amershek as a substitute custodian.
• The board approved days off without pay for several school employees and rescinded the motion to approve Alicia Murphy as Tamaqua’s special education teacher liaison.
