Thanksgiving dinner

The Tamaqua Salvation Army is again hosting its annual free community Thanksgiving dinner. Dinner will be served on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Takeouts are available. Call 570-668-0410 to make delivery arrangements.

The Sal is located at 105 W. Broad St.

Owl Creek Christmas

The Owl Creek Reservoir Commission will sponsor its annual visit from Santa on Dec. 9, at the lower reservoir. Festivities will begin at noon and end at 4 p.m.

Admission is free.

There will be grand prize drawings for all children, up to the age of 12. Every child will receive a gift and have the opportunity to create an ornament. There will be a campfire for marshmallow toasting.

Food and beverages will be available.

In the event of bad weather, the event will be postponed until Dec. 16.

Tamaqua seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met Nov. 16 at the Tamaqua YMCA with 48 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session after opening the meeting with the invocation “Real Thanksgiving.”

The annual Christmas party will be held at the Y at noon on Dec. 14. Deadline for reservations will be Dec. 7.

Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, the next meeting will be held on Nov. 30 and will include a celebration of November and December birthdays.

The group is open to anyone 55 or older. Meetings are held at 1 p.m. Thursdays at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St.

Street sweeper

It’s that time of the year when temperatures are dropping below freezing and any little bit of moisture can make the roadways slick. That means it’s time to end Tamaqua Borough’s weekly street sweeping schedule.

The sweeper won’t return until spring 2018. Further updates will be released through the media, the borough’s webpage and on Facebook.

Soup social

The next monthly community soup social at Trinity United Church of Christ will be held on Dec. 2. The social will be held from 4-6 p.m. in the social hall.

The meal is free to the public and everyone is welcome to enjoy the soup, desserts, refreshments and time with friends.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Activities for next week include: Monday, Celebrate Recovery is at 6:30 p.m.; Tuesday, sisters growth group meets at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, prayer gathering at 9 a.m., Celebrate Recovery training at 10 a.m., TYM REMIX meets at 6:30 p.m., GriefShare meets at 7 p.m.; Thursday, musician practice at 7 p.m., worship leaders meet at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, practice for the Christmas Eve special, men at 9 a.m., women at 10 a.m., Christmas celebration at 6 p.m.

St. John Lutheran

The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at this Christ the King Sunday’s 9:15 a.m. worship service in St. John’s Lutheran Church. The service will include Holy Communion.

The Tamaqua Ministerial Association will meet at St. John’s at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 27.
