    The Rev. Kevin Roberts of Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church, Tamaqua, opened the prayer service part of Tamaqua’s community National Day of Prayer observance on May 3. The service was preceded by a community breakfast, hosted by Trinity United Church of Christ with about 90 participants. In addition to Roberts, other pastors included the Rev. Phyllis Wolford, Rick Clemson, Steve Gintz, the Rev. Kevin Duffy-Guy, the Rev. Ed Noftz and the Rev. Cindy White. Prayers were offered for government, the military, the media, business, education, churches and the family. The National Day of Prayer was established by an act of Congress and signed into law in 1952 by President Harry S. Truman and amended by President Ronald Reagan in 1988. CONTRIBUTED PHOTO
