Tamaqua district approves budget with no tax increase
The Tamaqua Area School District’s 2019-20 final budget was approved with no tax increase on Tuesday.
“We don’t stash cash above the threshold which PDE (Pennsylvania Department of Education) recommends, which is 8 percent of your budget,” said school board President Larry Wittig.
“We are actually over 8 percent now, and at zero tax increase we would have a healthy probably 7-and-a-half percent fund balance. We also, through the sale of Rush, took care of some needed capital improvements or repairs that we would not have been able to do.”
