Two defendants failed to appear for their preliminary hearings before District Magisterial Judge Stephen Bayer on March 12, leading the judge to issue warrants for their arrest.

Matthew Warren Elison, 18, of Summit Hill, was due in court to answer to charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a license, careless driving and underage drinking. The charges were filed by Coaldale patrolman James Bonner in connection with a Jan. 31 case.

Kimberly Jayne Halye, 32, of Schuylkill Haven, was supposed to be in court to answer to a charge of retail theft. Rush Township patrolman Brandon McGinnis is the arresting officer. The theft took place on Feb. 5.

Defendants who waived their preliminary hearings to the Schuylkill County Court of Common Pleas included:

Angelo Maldonado Sr., 29, of West Hazleton, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia by Tamaqua patrolman Christian DeAngelo. The charges were filed in connection with an Aug. 1, 2017, case.

Maldonado was released on $1,000 bail.

Jonathan Michael Burget, 41, of McAdoo, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license and driving an unregistered vehicle. The charges were filed after a Dec. 25 incident and were filed by McAdoo patrolman William Curilla.

Burget was released on his own recognizance.

Jendaya Lee Williams-Sheffield, 24, of Norristown, was charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and improper passing in an emergency response area. The charges were filed by patrolman Curilla on June 10, 2018.

Williams-Sheffield was released on her own recognizance.
