    This Welcome to Tamaqua heart sculpture commanded a $4,100 top bid during the Tamaqua Has Heart Auction and Gala held Thursday. In total, one dozen hearts were auctioned to the public, prompting vigorous bidding. Proceeds will benefit the Tamaqua Community Art Center and related arts initiatives in the greater Tamaqua area. The Pennsylvania Cable Network will premiere its first monthly episode of a new series entitled “Exploring Pennsylvania Boroughs” at 7:30 p.m. today, that will feature the borough of Tamaqua.

The program is produced by the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs.

Located in the southern coal region of the Appalachian mountains, Tamaqua, a former coal mining town, is now supported by many cultural and civic improvements, according to the program description at the PCN website (pcntv.com).
