Tamaqua grad plans cultural bazaar

Published April 11. 2019 12:53PM

Makayla Boyle, daughter of Thomas and Jane Boyle of Tamaqua, was one of several students at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine to plan and organize a bazaar as part of a monthlong observation of Africans in the Diaspora History Month. The bazaar was held on Feb. 15 as part of an annual celebration of the achievements of African-Americans and served as a time to recognize their central role in U.S. history.

All members of the school’s community were invited to participate and celebrate the cultural music, customs and food of Africa. In addition to craft making, the event included tutorials and a dance performance by the Wilkes University African Cultural Association.

Boyle is a 2014 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry from Alvernia University in 2018.
