Tamaqua library receives $5K grant from PPL Foundation

The Tamaqua Public Library has received a $5,000 grant from the PPL Foundation. These funds supported the Summer Quest 2019 program, providing STREAM across all age groups.

The PPL grant helped the library purchase over $1,000 of quality children’s books and professional books that aided in the learning process and implementation of the Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art and Math program.

The Tamaqua Public Library provides a six-week summer reading quest program for all children in the community to help “summer slide” and to provide fun and learning in a safe, welcoming environment.

In 2019, all the programs are focused on STREAM.

Additional money is needed to provide training and educational materials for the staff; updated books, including coding for all; items for simple experiments; programmable robotic devices; art and craft supplies; and presenters for a variety of interesting learning experiences.

All the craft items for ages up to 19 were paid for by the grant, including paint, glow in the dark stickers and glass jars. The grant aided in printing fliers and promoting summer programs through other marketing avenues.

A Summer’s End Final Quest program will be held at 6 p.m. today.

A professional Science and Storytelling group from New Jersey, “Science Tellers,” will be conducting the audience-interactive program.

All attendees will receive 30 coupons to enter into the summer incentive drawing — all winners will be selected at the close of business Friday.

The PPL Foundation awards annual grants through a competitive application and review process.
