Tamaqua man charged with smashing windows
A Tamaqua man faces a criminal mischief charge after police said he smashed windows at the American Hose Co. and Times News buildings in the borough.
Police responded to the area of the Five Points around 1 a.m. Saturday for a report of a man throwing garbage cans in the roadway.
The investigation led officers to 29-year-old Nicholas John D’Angelo.
A witness stated a man, wearing camouflage pants and a dark jacket with a hood was throwing garbage cans and trash onto North Railroad Street and then fled toward Pine Street.
A trail of knocked over garbage cans and the smashed windows led to D’Angelo, who was detained for questioning and then released.
After he was released, D’Angelo traveled toward East Cottage Avenue and continued knocking over garbage cans, police said, and started throwing flags on the ground on Center Street.
He was taken into custody and transported back to the Tamaqua Police station. While in custody, police said, D’Angelo was “extremely uncooperative,” refusing to answer any questions, spitting all over the cell block, and screaming.
