Tamaqua man gets jail time in assault case
A Tamaqua man who was jailed for assault and harassment two days in a row will spend time in jail.
Jerry J. Feathers, 37, of Race Street, was charged by borough police with simple assault and harassment on May 21 and simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct/fighting on May 22.
He pleaded guilty before Schuylkill County Judge James P. Goodman to two counts of simple assault. The charges of harassment and disorderly conduct were dropped.
Goodman sentenced Feathers to one to 23 months in the May 21 case, and from three to 23 months in the May 22 case, with a total of 48 days credit for time served.
Feathers was charged with simple assault and harassment by Tamaqua patrolman Timothy Walsh and with making terroristic threats and harassment by Tamaqua patrolman Michael Hobbs, all on May 21.
When Feathers was released on $7,500 percentage bail, he called the victim and threatened to slice her throat, according to police.
He showed up at the home at 12:07 a.m. May 22.
The victim said he called her and told her to unlock the front door as he was on his way. She did.
Once he was inside, Feathers punched the woman in the face and grabbed her by the hair as she attempted to call 911. She was able to run outside, where neighbors came to her aid.
Feathers fled the scene but one of the witnesses followed him and updated police on his whereabouts. He was taken into custody on South Railroad Street.
He was then charged with simple assault and harassment on May 22 by Tamaqua patrolman Thomas Rodgers.
