Tamaqua man injured when tree falls on him

A Tamaqua man was seriously injured Thursday when he was struck by a tree in a Tamaqua park. The incident occurred just before noon at the Dutch Hill park and baseball field.

According to reports from the scene, Bill Aungst, the head of the facility, was just outside the outfield fence when he was struck by the tree.

He was treated at the scene by members of the Penn Mahoning ambulance and Lehighton paramedics before being flown by Life Flight helicopter to an area trauma center.

Members of the American Hose and East End fire companies set up the landing zone at the scene.

Online reports indicate that Aungst has a broken clavicle and two broken ribs.
