An area Tamaqua man was jailed on Friday for assaulting a family member in a domestic incident.

State police at Frackville said troopers responded to Laurel Lane in Walker Township about 6 a.m. for a report of a domestic assault. On scene the victim, a 62-year-old man, said Mark Scheitrum, 32, had assaulted him. Troopers said the victim had a severe laceration to his head.

After a brief scuffle, Scheitrum was taken into custody and charged with assault with serious bodily injury, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arraigned before a district judge and was unable to post the $50,000 straight cash bail set and was remanded to the county prison in Pottsville.
