Spring concert
The Tamaqua Area School District Music Department will present its annual spring concert on April 25 in the school district auditorium. The concert will feature the talents of the Raider Wind Ensemble, the Concert Band and the Jazz Band.
The combined ensemble is composed of 140 students from grades 7 through 12. The concert will feature a variety of musical styles and periods
The concert is open to the public and tickets will be available at the door.
Doors will open at 6:45 p.m. and the concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Rush-Ryan seniors
The Rush-Ryan-Delano Senior Citizens met April 9 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 45 members in attendance. President Robert Neifert conducted the business session after opening the meeting with the invocation “Journey to Life.” New member Mary Ann Fisher and returning member Mary Reed were given warm welcomes. Lucille Spaar and Diane Gould donated Easter related items which were awarded to June Guy and Mary Ann Laughlin.
Upcoming events include: May 7, anniversary dinner at Capriotti’s in McAdoo and July 23, summer picnic at St. Peter’s Grove.
The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at the Ryan Township Fire Company in Barnesville and is open to anyone 55 or older.
Garden club
The Lewistown Valley Garden Club held its first official meeting of 2019 on March 26 in the fellowship hall of Zion Church of the Lewistown Valley.
Evelyn Adams took first place in arrangements, with Carol Kohn in second, Marie Barth in third and Mary Bridygham in fourth. Linda Leiby was awarded first place in the specimen category, with a pussy willow branch, while Bridygham took second with a forsythia branch.
The next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. April 23. Guest speaker will be Rachel Spagnola, live birds senior educator at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary. Arrangements will be any flower in a crystal container, while any flowering branch may be used as a specimen.

Class of 1964
The Tamaqua High School Class of 1964 will meet at 7 p.m. April 24 at the home of Tom and Toni Jones in the New England Valley.
Class members will discuss the upcoming 55 anniversary reunion, which will be held Sept. 8 at Capriotti’s in McAdoo.
St. John Lutheran
The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. Easter Sunday service in St. John’s Lutheran Church. The service will include Holy Communion.
Choirs will rehearse on April 24: angels at 6:30 p.m.; shepherds at 6:30 p.m.; chancel choir at 7:30 p.m.
Calvary Lewistown
The Rev. Susan Moore will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Easter Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. A sunrise service will be held at 6:15 a.m. at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle.
Good Friday services will include a silent reflection service at 2:30 p.m. at Frieden’s Lutheran Church in New Ringgold and the community Lenten service at 7 p.m. at Calvary. A hymnsing will be held at 6:45 p.m.
St. Peter’s Union
The Rev. Virginia Heimer will officiate at the 6:30 and 9 a.m. Easter Sunday services at St. Peter’s Church, West Penn. Both services will include Holy Communion and breakfast will be served between them, at 7:45 a.m.
Next week’s activities include: Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m.; Wednesday, Confirmation class meets at 5 p.m.; Thursday, senior choir rehearses at 7:30 p.m.
St. Peter’s is celebrating its 175 anniversary. The anniversary committee will meet at 10:30 a.m. on April 28.
