Summer celebration
Tamaqua Area Faith Fellowship Network is hosting its annual summer celebration beginning at 7 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Tamaqua Community Art Center.
Once again, the evening of music, message and fellowship features the Blue Mountain Community Church Praise Band led by Pastor Jennifer Eckert.
Members of the Tamaqua Ministerial Association will deliver short messages between praise sets. Participants include the Rev. Cindy White (Zion Lutheran), the Rev. Darryl Kensinger (Trinity UCC), Father John Frink (St. John XXIII), the Rev. Bob Peiffer (Christ UCC), the Rev. Kevin Duffy-Guy (St. John UCC), and the Rev. Kevin Roberts (Bethany ECC).
As in the past, the evening closes with an ice cream fellowship time.
A freewill offering will be taken and split between the Praise Band and Community Art Center.
TAFFN is an organization of lay leaders from Tamaqua area churches and other organizations doing God’s work in the community. TAFFN is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and operates under the umbrella of the Tamaqua Area Community Partnership.
Zion Lewistown
Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday at Zion Church Lewistown Valley. Communion will be included during the service. Sunday school is scheduled for 9:15 a.m.
The women’s prayer study group meets every Monday at 6 p.m. The fundraising meeting is scheduled for Aug. 13 at 6:30 p.m., followed by the preschool board meeting at 7:30 p.m.
Bethany EC
The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday, August 4 in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.
Diabetes support
St Lukes University Health Network will hold a Diabetes Support group meeting on Aug. 15 at St. Luke’s Miners Campus, 360 W. Ruddle St., Coaldale. The meeting will be held in the community room at 6 p.m. For more information, call 570-645-8107 or 570-645-1966.
School news
New student and freshman orientation will be held at 6 p.m. on Aug. 14 in the district auditorium.
High school students can begin to pick up their 2019-20 schedules in the high school office beginning on Aug. 13. The office is open Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Calvary Lewistown
All services for Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley will be held at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle.
Pastor Susan Moore will preside over the 10:25 a.m. worship service, continuing the sermon series entitled The Character of God. This week’s subject is Righteousness/Justice. Special music will be provided by Allie, Thaddaeus, April and Jamie. Sunday school classes are held at 9:15 a.m.
The annual Sunday school picnic will be held immediately after the morning service. There will be fun, food and fellowship for all ages, with evening vespers at 6 p.m. with music and devotional time. Call 570-668-3359 to discuss your contribution to the “carry in menu.”
Wednesday evening prayer service will be held at 7 p.m.
