Meet the Raiders

The Tamaqua Area School District will hold its annual fall “Meet the Raiders” Night this Thursday at the Tamaqua Sports Stadium. The evening will begin at 7 p.m.

All fall sports participants, cheerleaders and coaches will be recognized along with the Raider Marching Band, which will perform its field show. The event is free of charge and the public is welcome to attend.

In case of inclement weather, the event will not be rescheduled.

Tamaqua seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met Aug. 16 at the Tamaqua YMCA with 50 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session after opening the meeting with the invocation “My Daily Prayer.”

Members were reminded of the annual summer picnic, which will be held Sept. 13 at the West Penn Rod and Gun Club in Clamtown. Activities will begin at noon. Deadline for reservations will be Aug. 30.

Shirley Kaiser and Kathleen Valentine were added to the sick list.

Refreshments were served.

The group is open to anyone 55 or older, meeting at 1 p.m. every Thursday at the YMCA. The next meeting will be Aug. 23.

Chamber concerts

The Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce has extended dates for its 12th Annual Summer Concert Series, rescheduling some acts that were rained out earlier this summer. The next event will be this Thursday, featuring the Bees Knees playing ’60s rock and British invasion bands music.

The concerts are held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on the platform at the Tamaqua Train Station. All events are weather permitting.

The entertainment will continue: Aug. 30, Gene Morrison, oldies and the classics; Sept. 6, Carbon Boxcar; Sept. 13, Vinyl Persuasion; Sept. 20, It Takes Two, top 40s and classic good-time oldies; and Sept. 27, Buddy Musselman, classic rock and outlaw country.

Bloodmobile

An American Red Cross Bloodmobile will visit the Tamaqua YMCA on Aug. 23. Hours will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Walk-in donors are welcome.

Anyone 17 or older, who weighs at least 110 pounds and is in general good health, is eligible to become a blood donor.

Primitive Methodist

Pastor Rick Clemson will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service on Sunday in American Primitive Methodist Church. Sunday school will be held at 9:30 a.m.

Bible study sessions are held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays. For more information, email virno.desk@outlook.com.

Hope in the Mountains NFG is held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. every Thursday.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the ministry council will meet at 11:45 a.m.

Activities for next week include: Monday, Celebrate Recovery men’s training at 5:30 p.m., Celebrate Recovery meets at 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday, TYM REMIX will hold a movie night at 6 p.m., worship practice at 7 p.m.
