Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush-Ryan-Delano Senior Citizens held its annual picnic on July 24 at St. Peter’s Grove in the Locust Valley. Food was provided by Hess Catering of Schuylkill Haven.

The seniors held a regular meeting on Aug. 14 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 47 members in attendance. President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business session after opening the meeting with the invocation “Light a Candle, Say a Prayer.”

New members Matilda Kachmar and Patty Valasek, along with guest Thelma Paul, were given warm welcomes. Shirley Kaiser was added to the sick list and a moment of silence was held in memory of Ruth Ruby.

Upcoming events include: Sept. 24, trip to the Bloomsburg Fair; Oct. 31, trip to Reading Diner; Nov. 8, military air show and buffet.

The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at the Ryan Township Fire Company in Barnesville and is open to anyone 55 or older.

TEPTO meeting

The Tamaqua Elementary Parent Teacher Organization will hold its first meeting of the 2018-19 school year on Sept. 11. The meeting will be held in the school library, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Recycling change

Due to the Labor Day holiday next week, there will be a change in Tamaqua’s trash and recycling pickup schedule.

For the trash pickup schedule, Monday’s usual collection will be done on Tuesday, while Tuesday’s will change to Wednesday. Thursday and Friday’s schedules will be done as usual.

Recyclable material will be collected on Saturday, Sept. 1, rather than Wednesday.

St. John Lutheran

The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. Sunday service in St. John’s Lutheran Church. The service will include Holy Communion.

Activities for next week include: Tuesday, worship and music committee meets at 3:30 p.m.; Thursday, angel choir meets at 6 p.m., shepherd choir rehearsal is at 6:30 p.m. and chancel choir practices at 7:30 p.m.

The bell choir will rehearse at 8 a.m. on Sept. 9.

Primitive Methodist

Pastor Rick Clemson will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service on Sunday in American Primitive Methodist Church. Sunday school will be held at 9:30 a.m.

Bible study sessions are held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays. For more information, email virno.desk@outlook.com.

Hope in the Mountains NFG is held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. every Thursday.

The fall rummage sale will be held on Sept. 6, 7 and 8. All proceeds will benefit the church food bank.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Activities for next week include: Monday, Celebrate Recovery women’s training at 5 p.m., Celebrate Recovery men’s training at 5:30 p.m., Celebrate Recovery meets at 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday, TYM REMIX meets 6:30 p.m., worship practice will be at 8 p.m.

Zion Lewistown

The Rev. Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Zion Church of the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes start at 9:15 a.m.

Valley Christian Preschool will start classes on Sept. 4.

Upcoming activities include: Dept. 6, Guild meeting at 7 p.m.; Sept. 11, fundraising committee meets at 6:30 p.m., preschool board meets at 7:30 p.m.; Sept. 13, OWLS meet at noon.
