Tamaqua seniors
The Tamaqua Senior Citizens held a Christmas party on Dec. 14 at the Tamaqua YMCA with 60 members in attendance. The celebration opened with a recitation of the “Lord’s Prayer.”
The meal was provided by A and C Catering of Mahanoy City. Secretary Ruthann Feane provided candy canes, Jean Machamer had goody bags and president Melody Weicker offered Christmas cactus plants for everyone in attendance. Wendy Pearl was awarded a snowman wreath, and gift certificates went to Mary Ann Kupetz and Pat Brown.
The next meeting will be held Jan. 11, weather permitting. Starting with that meeting, it will be brown bag snacks instead of refreshments. Drinks will still be provided.
The group is open to anyone 55 or older. Meetings are held at 1 p.m. Thursdays at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St.
Christmas Eve
Revive Community Fellowship invites the community to a free Christmas Eve celebration at 10 a.m. on Dec. 24.
The event will be held at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St.
Library news
The Tamaqua Public Library will end the year by offering almost new and gently used books at bargain prices. The 10 cent a book sale will be held from now until the end of 2017.
The library is located at 30 S. Railroad St. Hours are: Monday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Bethany EC
Christmas Eve services will be held at 10 a.m., 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church, with the Rev. Kevin Roberts officiating. The evening services will be candlelight services.
Activities for next week include: Wednesday, Celebrate Recovery training at 10 a.m., TYM REMIX meets at 6:30 p.m., GriefShare meets at 7 p.m.; Thursday, musician practice at 7 p.m., worship leaders meet at 7:30 p.m.
