Food certification
Penn State Extension services will offer a ServSafe course in Pottsville in January. The course in safe food preparation will be held at the Schuylkill County Extension office from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 17 and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Jan. 24.
After attending both class sessions, participants will take a multiple choice exam. Those who pass the exam will be issued a ServSafe certificate which meets the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s requirement needed by those who work in the food industry.
The course covers information related to preventing cross-contamination, safe food handling, temperature control, cleaning and sanitization, proper storage, pest control and other related topics.

Zion Lewistown
Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Zion Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school will be held at 9:15 a.m.
A Christmas Eve candlelight service will be held at 4 p.m. on Dec. 24.
St. Peter’s Union
The Rev. Kenneth Buckwalter will officiate at three services this Christmas Eve in St. Peter’s Union Church in Mantzville. At 9 a.m., there will be a Las Pasadas worship service, while Christ Eve candlelight services will be at 7 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. All three services will include Holy Communion.
St. John Lutheran
The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at this Sunday’s 9:15 a.m. worship service in St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Christmas Eve services will be celebrated at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. The earlier service will be preceded by special music by the Bell Choir and the later service will be by candlelight.
Calvary Evangelical
The Rev. Philip Sabas will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Christmas Eve Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.
The Rev. Brian Reading will be the guest speaker at the Dec. 31 morning worship service.
