Sorority news
The Preceptor Alpha Upsilon chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority will hold a Progressive Dinner on Dec. 8. The evening will start with appetizers at the home of Marie Umbriac, followed by dinner at the home of Patti Confer. Dessert will be served at Mary Machay’s home.
Seven members of the chapter traveled to Ephrata and Lititz on Dec. 1 to participate in the Twelve Shops of Christmas tour, visiting several unique shops and enjoying dinner before traveling home.
Members donated personal items to Bethany’s Children’s Home, as Christmas gifts, as part of the sorority’s service project.
The Secret Sister Christmas party will be held at Mary Machay’s home on Dec. 12.
Rush-Ryan seniors
The Rush-Ryan-Delano Senior Citizens met Nov. 27 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 37 members in attendance. President Robert Neifert conducted the business session after opening the meeting with the invocation “Thank God for Everything.”
Two new members, June Guy and Mary Ann Yeneskie, as well as returning member Nancy Eisley, were given warm welcomes. Betty Bablo, Larry Bower, Betty Kunkel and Annamae Yushinsky were added to the sick list. Birthday wishes were extended to John Fredericks.
Upcoming events include: Dec. 4, Christmas party at Capriotti’s in McAdoo, doors open at noon; Dec. 17 trip to Mohegan Sun in Wilkes-Barre.
The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at the Ryan Township Fire Company in Barnesville and is open to anyone 55 or older.
Diaper depot
Zion’s diaper ministry is now accepting applications for the Dec. 15 distribution date. The free ministry is open to families residing within the Tamaqua Area School District.
Proof of residency, but not financial status, photo identification and preregistration are required.

St. Peter’s
The Rev. William Seaman will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday at St. Peter’s West Penn Church, Mantzville. The service will include a congregational meeting.
Also on Sunday, Sunday school classes will meet at 10:15 a.m.; junior choir rehearsal is at 11 a.m.; Girl Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.
Next week’s activities include: Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m.; Wednesday, retirees meet at 10 a.m., Confirmation class is at 5 p.m.; Thursday, senior choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.
The church board will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 16.
Zion Lewistown
Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday at Zion Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school will be held at 9:15 a.m.
Also on Sunday, the preschool classes will present their Christmas program — 3-year-olds at 1:30 p.m., 4-year-olds at 3 p.m.
The OWLS Christmas party will be held at noon on Dec. 13, while the guild will hold its Christmas party on Dec. 16.
St. John Lutheran
The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. Sunday service in St. John’s Lutheran Church. The service will include Baptism. Sunday school and Confirmation classes will meet at 10:30 a.m.
Activities for next week include: Monday, church council meets at 7 p.m.; Thursday, angel choir meets at 6 p.m., shepherd choir at 6:30 p.m. and chancel choir at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, Messenger assembly at 9:30 a.m.
