Master gardeners

Penn State Extension’s Master Gardeners program is now accepting applications for its volunteer program. A free information program will be held on March 27 at the Schuylkill County Ag Center, 1201 Ag Center Drive, Pottsville. The session will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will include information on training classes, instructors, fees and materials, along with requirements related to ongoing education and volunteer time.

Successful applicants will receive specialized training as horticultural educators, with classes scheduled to being in mid-August and continue through mid-December.

Bloodmobile

An American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be held in Tamaqua on Feb. 20 at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St. Hours will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome.

Anyone 17 or older, who weighs at least 110 pounds, and is in good general health is eligible to donate blood.

Cancer telethon

The annual ACS Telethon will take place on April 6 and 7, airing live from Penn’s Peak in Jim Thorpe. Former ACS Courage Award winners and survivors are welcome to participate.

The Salute to Survivors will be part of the Saturday evening activities.

Coffee with a cop

The second in a series of “Coffee With a Cop” events will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. this Saturday at Hope and Coffee, 137 Pine St., Tamaqua.

Mayor Nathan Gerace encourages all to attend and bring a friend.

Calvary Lewistown

Pastor Susan Moore will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Special music will be provided by Allie Gerber.

Also on Sunday, a congregational singalong will be held at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Bible study session.

A prayer meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

Zion Lewistown

Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Zion Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m.

Activities for next week include: Tuesday, fundraiser committee meets at 6:30 p.m., preschool board meets at 7:30 p.m.; Wednesday, evangelism PLUS meets at 6:30 p.m.

St. John Lutheran

The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. Sunday service in St. John’s Lutheran Church. The service will be followed by a congregational meeting.

Sunday school classes will meet at 10:30 a.m.

Activities for next week include: Monday, church council meets at 7 p.m.; Thursday, property committee meets at 7 p.m., angel choir rehearses at 6 p.m., shepherd choir meets at 6:30 p.m. and chancel choir practices at 7:30 p.m.

The bell choir will rehearse at 8 a.m. on Feb. 24.

St. Peter’s Union

The Rev. Emmajane Finney will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday at St. Peter’s Church, West Penn. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the junior choir will rehearse at 11 a.m., Girl Scouts will meet at 6 p.m. and the church board will meet at 6:30 p.m.

Next week’s activities include: Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m., women’s group meets at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Confirmation class meets at 5 p.m.; Thursday, apple dumpling pickup from noon to 5 p.m., senior choir meets at 7:30 p.m.
