ACS benefit

The seventh annual “Coming Together For a Cause” chili and boilo cook off will be held this Saturday, Feb. 23, at the East End Fire Company, 533 E. Broad St. The event is sponsored by the East End and American Hose No. 1 Fire Companies, with all proceeds donated to the Carbon/Tamaqua Unit of the American Cancer Society.

Registration will begin at 11 a.m., with tasting/judging from 1 to 5 p.m. Special tasting and/or registration packages will be available.

Prizes will be awarded for the best traditional and specialty chili and boilo.

Walk with ease

The Tamaqua YMCA, Diakon Community Services and the Arthritis Foundation have partnered to provide a free walking program, beginning on March 4.

“Walk With Ease” is a six-week program aimed at reducing pain, increasing balance and improving overall health. It is designed for any individual suffering from arthritic pain who wants to increase balance, strength and walking pace. Sessions will be held from 1 to p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from March 4 through April 12.
