SkillsUSA medalists
Several students from the Tamaqua Area earned medals at the STC SkillsUSA District 6 competition, which was held Feb. 8 at the Pennsylvania School of Technology in Williamsport.
First-place medalists are: Breille Saukynas, health knowledge bowl; Camerin Miller, CNC technician; Aaron Smith, motorcycle service technology; and Dawson Paulo, power equipment technology.
Second-place winners are: Gabrielle Beishline, nurse assisting; and Michael Lucas, plumbing.
Gold-medal winners will advance to the PA SkillsUSA State Conference in April.
Diaper depot
Zion’s diaper ministry is now accepting applications for the March 16 distribution date. The free ministry is open to families residing within the Tamaqua Area School District.
Zion’s distributes free diapers on the third Saturday of each month, by appointment only. Proof of residency, but not financial status, photo identification and preregistration are required. Each 50-pack bundle of diapers will also come with a pack of wipes. Participants will be provided one bundle of diapers per child, per month, subject to availability.

Bethany EC
The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.
Activities for the next week include: Monday, Celebrate Recovery women’s training at 5 p.m., Celebrate Recovery men’s training at 5:15 p.m., Celebrate Recovery meets at 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday, TYM Remix meets at 6:30 p.m., worship practice is at 8 p.m.
Primitive Methodist
Pastor Rick Clemson will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in American Primitive Methodist Church. Sunday school classes are held at 9:30 a.m.
Also on Sunday, the monthly service at the Hometown Nursing Center will be held at 6:30 p.m.
Hope in the Mountains meetings are held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays. This is a Nar-Anon Family Group. For more information, call Mark at 570-952-5098.
Grandparents support
A new support group for grandparents who find themselves parenting for the second time around has been formed and will meet monthly at the Hope and Coffee Shop in Tamaqua.
Organizers look at the group as a way for grandparents to share their experiences and support each other through the struggles and triumphs.
Children are welcome as activities for them will be provided by Raiders STEP-Up.
The group will meet at 7 p.m. March 12, at Hope and Coffee, which is located at 137 Pine St., Tamaqua.
Walk with ease
The Tamaqua YMCA, Diakon Community Services and the Arthritis Foundation have partnered to provide a free walking program, beginning on March 4.
“Walk With Ease” is a six-week program aimed at reducing pain, increasing balance and improving overall health. It is designed for any individual suffering from arthritic pain who wants to increase balance, strength and walking pace. Sessions will be held at 1 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from March 4 through April 12.

St. John Lutheran
The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. Sunday service in St. John’s Lutheran Church. The service will include Holy Communion.
Sunday school and Confirmation classes will meet at 10:30 a.m.
Activities for next week include: Wednesday, Imposition of Ashes and communion at 7 p.m.; Thursday, angel choir rehearses at 6 p.m., shepherd choir meets at 6:30 p.m. and chancel choir practices at 7:30 p.m.
The bell choir will rehearse at 8 a.m. on March 10.
Calvary Lewistown
The Rev. Susan Moore will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Cheryle Cresswill, director of Care Net of Schuylkill County will share a message.
Also on Sunday, a Bible study session and congregational sing will be held at 6:30 p.m.
A community Lenten service will be held at 7 p.m. March 13, with a hymn sing at 6:45 p.m.
St. Peter’s Union
The Rev. Robert Reier will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday at St. Peter’s Church, West Penn. The service will include Holy Communion.
Also on Sunday, the junior choir will rehearse at 11 a.m. and Girl Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.
Next week’s activities include: Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m., worship and music committee meets at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Ash Wednesday service at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, senior choir meets at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, meet and greet with Pastor Heimer from 4 to 7 p.m.
Zion Lewistown
Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Zion Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m.
Also on Sunday, Miller-Keystone blood drive will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The guild will meet at 6:30 p.m. March 7.
