Middle school honors
The name of Connor Reighard was inadvertently missed from the list of Tamaqua Area Middle School students named to the honor roll for the second quarter.
Connor is a seventh-grade student and made high honors.
Library news
The Tamaqua Public Library continues to provide a variety of services to local residents of all ages.
The Spring Story Time sessions, for children up to the age of 5, will begin on March 12 and 13.
The young adult program meets the third Monday of each month. The next session will be at 6 p.m. on Feb. 18, when the discussion will center on musicals. There will also be games and free pizza.
Due to a lack of storage space, the library is conducting a super book sale, with gently used books available for one nickel each.
The library is located at 30 S. Railroad St. For more information on any library event, call 570-668-4660.
Regular library hours are: Monday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesday and Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Friday, noon to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Grandparents support
A new support group for grandparents who find themselves parenting for the second time around is being formed and will meet monthly at the Hope and Coffee Shop in Tamaqua.
Organizers look at the group as a way for grandparents to share their experiences and support each other through the struggles and triumphs.
Children are welcome as activities for them will be provided by Raiders STEP-Up.
The first meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Feb. 12. The group will then meet the second Tuesday of each month, at 7 p.m., at Hope and Coffee, which is located at 137 Pine St., Tamaqua.
Mayor’s events
Tamaqua Mayor Nathan Gerace has two upcoming events scheduled for February — the first meeting of the new group “THRIVE” and Coffee with a Cop.”
THRIVE stands for Tamaqua Has Residents Invested In a Vibrant Environment. The initial meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at Tamaqua Borough Hall, 320 E. Broad St.
The second in a series of “Coffee With a Cop” events will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Feb. 23 at the Hope and Coffee bistro, 137 Pine St., Tamaqua.
Everyone is welcome to attend, and Gerace encourages all to bring a friend to both events.
St. John Lutheran
The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. Sunday service in St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Sunday school and Confirmation classes will meet at 10:30 a.m.
Activities for next week include: Monday, church council meets at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, finance committee meets at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, angel choir rehearses at 6 p.m., shepherd choir meets at 6:30 p.m. and chancel choir practices at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, newsletter assembly.
Calvary Lewistown
The Rev. Susan Moore will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley.
The final video in the Max Lucado series will be presented at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
A prayer meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
St. Peter’s Union
The Rev. Gilberto Garcia-Rodriquez will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Boy Scout Sunday at St. Peter’s Church, West Penn. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.
Also on Sunday, the junior choir will rehearse at 11 a.m. and Girl Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.
Next week’s activities include: Tuesday, March newsletter deadline, prayer group meets at 5 p.m.; Wednesday, retirees meet at 10 a.m., Confirmation class meets at 5 p.m.; Thursday, senior choir meets at 7:30 p.m.
