Garden Club
Spring officially arrives today, which means it’s time for members of the Lewistown Valley Garden Club to get out their garden shears, rakes and planting ideas.
The club’s first official meeting of 2019 will be held at 7 p.m. March 26 in the social hall of Zion Church of the Lewistown Valley. Meetings will then be held the fourth Tuesday of each month, same time and place. Each meeting will include an informative program and the judging of arrangements and specimens.
The arrangement category for the March meeting will be a jonquil or yellow flower in a blue container or with a blue accessory. This month’s specimen is a forced branch.

Soup social
Trinity United Church of Christ, 22 Lafayette St., will continue its free, monthly soup social during 2019. The next social will be held on April 6.
Free soup and fellowship will be available from 4 to 6 p.m.
Participants are asked to use the lower parking lot entrance to the church social hall.
Tamaqua seniors
The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met March 14 at the Tamaqua YMCA with 44 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker opened the meeting with the reading of “The Irish Blessing.”
A moment of silence was held in memory of Joe Bednarik. Joan Wall and Kathleen Valentine were added to the sick list.
January and February birthdays will be celebrated at the March 29 meeting. A representative from the Schuylkill Transportation System will be at the May 9 meeting to provide information and membership cards.
The group is open to anyone 55 or older, meeting at 1 p.m. every Thursday at the YMCA, with a few exceptions for holidays. The next meeting will be held on March 21 and will include provided refreshments.
St. John Lutheran
The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. Sunday service in St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Also on Sunday, Sunday school, First Holy Communion and Confirmation classes will meet at 10:30 a.m.
Activities for next week include: Wednesday, midweek Lenten service, 7 p.m., at St. John’s; Thursday, angel choir rehearses at 6 p.m., shepherd choir meets at 6:30 p.m. and chancel choir practice is at 7:30 p.m.
The bell choir will meet at 8 a.m. on March 31.
Bethany EC
The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.
Also on Sunday, the first Scenic Sundae Drive of 2019 will be held at 1:30 p.m.
Activities for the next week include: Monday, Celebrate Recovery women’s training at 5 p.m., Celebrate Recovery men’s training at 5:15 p.m., Celebrate Recovery meets at 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday, TYM Remix meets at 6:30 p.m., worship practice is at 8 p.m.; Thursday, young men’s study group meets at 6 p.m., coffee and conversation at 7 p.m., at Hope and Coffee.
Primitive Methodist
Pastor Rick Clemson will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in American Primitive Methodist Church. Sunday school classes are held at 9:30 a.m.
Hope in the Mountains meetings are held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays. This is a Nar-Anon Family Group. For more information, call Mark at 570-952-5098.
