Hunger walk
The Sixth Annual Tamaqua Hunger Walk is being planned for May 5 as the final event of Tamaqua’s Hunger Weekend, which will be held May 3, 4 and 5.
Sponsored by the Tamaqua Area Faith Fellowship Network, the annual event is a time for collecting food and monetary donations for the community’s three food banks.
Last year’s event collected 126 boxes of food and $6,928 in cash, which was distributed evenly to the food banks at the Tamaqua Salvation Army, American Primitive Methodist Church and Trinity United Church of Christ.
Registrations will begin at 1:30 p.m. on the day of the Hunger Walk at the Tamaqua Community Arts Center, 125 Pine St. The walk begins at 2 p.m. Participants are encouraged to secure sponsorships.
A time of fellowship will be held following the walk, which will be held rain or shine.

Tamaqua seniors
The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met March 21 at the Tamaqua YMCA with 41 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker opened the meeting with the inspirational reading of “New Hope in Springtime.”
A moment of silence was held in memory of Pearl Davis. Irma Leibensperger and Pat Bednarik were welcomed back to the group.
January and February birthdays will be celebrated at the March 28 meeting.
A representative from the Schuylkill Transportation System will be at the May 9 meeting to provide information and membership cards.
The group is open to anyone 55 or older, meeting at 1 p.m. every Thursday at the YMCA, with a few exceptions for holidays. The next meeting will be held on March 28 and will include provided refreshments.
Soup social
Trinity United Church of Christ, 22 Lafayette St., will continue its free, monthly soup social during 2019. The next social will be held on Saturday, April 6.
Free soup and fellowship will be available from 4 to 6 p.m.
Participants are asked to use the lower parking lot entrance to the church social hall.
GriefShare
A new GriefShare group is forming at Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church in Tamaqua. GriefShare is a ministry to hurting people who have experienced the loss of a loved one. The program is biblically based and nondenominational.
Meetings will begin at 7 p.m. on March 27 and will then be held on Wednesdays for the next 13 weeks.

Primitive Methodist
Pastor Rick Clemson will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in American Primitive Methodist Church. The service will include the Service of Infant Baptism and a guest speaker from Gideons International.
Sunday school classes are held at 9:30 a.m.
Hope in the Mountains meetings are held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays. This is a Nar-Anon Family Group. For more information, call Mark at 570-952-5098.
St. John Lutheran
The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. Sunday service in St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Also on Sunday, Sunday school, First Holy Communion and Confirmation classes will meet at 10:30 a.m.
Activities for next week include: Wednesday, midweek Lenten service, 7 p.m., at Zion Lutheran Church; Thursday, angel choir rehearses at 6 p.m., shepherd choir meets at 6:30 p.m. and chancel choir practice is at 7:30 p.m.
The bell choir will meet at 8 a.m. on April 7.
