Property tax
The Tamaqua Rotary Club will hear from state Sen. David Argall about efforts to eliminate the property tax. Argall will be at the next Rotary Club meeting, which is scheduled for 8 a.m. April 3 at Trinity United Church of Christ, 22 Lafayette St.
The Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce will serve as co-sponsor of the event.
The public is welcome to attend.
Sorority news
The Preceptor Alpha Upsilon chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority is collecting household and personal goods for the Women In Crisis shelter in Pottsville and will continue to do so through the end of March.
The chapter will resume its annual community Easter egg hunt this year, with the event scheduled for April 13 at the Bungalow Park. The hunt will be open to children between the ages of 1 through 10 who live within the Tamaqua Area School District.
Other plans include a Founder’s Day celebration on April 24 and an Oct. 12 bus trip to Peddler’s Village for Octoberfest.
Bethany EC
The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.
Also on Sunday, an UpRising prayer event will be held at 9:15 a.m.; the kitchen and social commissions will meet at 1:15 p.m.; women’s study group meets at 7 p.m.
Activities for the next week include: Monday, Celebrate Recovery men’s training at 5:15 p.m., Celebrate Recovery meets at 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday, TYM Remix meets at 6:30 p.m., GriefShare meets at 7 p.m., worship practice is at 8 p.m., music and worship committee meets at 8:45 p.m.; Thursday, young men’s study group meets at 6 p.m., coffee and conversation at 7 p.m., at Hope and Coffee.
Calvary Lewistown
The Rev. Susan Moore will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes are held at 9:15 a.m.
There will be a Sunday evening service, hymnsing and Bible study, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The community Lenten service on April 3 will be held at Zion United Methodist Church in Reynolds. A hymnsing will be held at 6:45 p.m., with the service set to begin at 7 p.m.
The annual Easter program, presented by the Sunday school classes, will be held at 10:25 a.m. on April 14.
St. Peter’s Union
The Rev. George Harpel will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday at St. Peter’s Church, West Penn. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.
Also on Sunday, the junior choir will rehearse at 11 a.m. and Girl Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.
Next week’s activities include: Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m., worship and music committee meets at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Confirmation class meets at 5 p.m., mid week Lenten service, 7:30 p.m., Zion’s Stone Church; Thursday, senior choir meets at 7:30 p.m.
Zion Lewistown
Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Zion Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m.
As this is the fifth Sunday of the month, coffee and light refreshments will be available in the foyer following the service.
