Tourism survey
The Schuylkill County Visitor’s Bureau has created a survey as part of the process of creating and enhancing the image of Schuylkill County. The purpose of the survey is to gather information that aids in the development of a brand that builds value for and showcases Schuylkill County’s authenticity as a destination. The survey takes about five minutes and can be completed at www.schuylkill.org and on the Visitor’s Bureau’s Facebook page.
Anyone who completes the survey and provides their email address will be entered into a drawing for a $200 gift card, courtesy of the Schuylkill County Visitor’s Bureau. The survey will be available until June 30.
Tamaqua seniors
The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met Feb. 28 at the Tamaqua YMCA with 42 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker opened the meeting with the reading of “I Said a Prayer for You Today.”
Two new members, Erma Gindar and Mary Camerini were welcomed, while Mary Reed, Nancy Hess and Kathleen Valentine were added to the sick list.
Membership dues for 2019 are now being accepted.
The group is open to anyone 55 or older, meeting at 1 p.m. every Thursday at the YMCA.
Exercise for seniors
The Tamaqua Salvation Army has partnered with Diakon to provide gentle fitness exercise classes for those age 55 and older.
Sessions are held at 10:30 a.m. every Monday and Thursday at the Salvation Army, 105 W. Broad St.
Sessions begin with a casual 10-20 minute warmup walk, then incorporates a variety of fitness genres, including dance, yoga and tai chi, which help to increase balance, flexibility, strength and energy. Most routines can be done standing or sitting based on the individual’s comfort level.
As with all exercise programs, participants may wish to consult with their doctor.
Classes are subject to weather conditions and will be canceled when the Tamaqua Area and Panther Valley School Districts are closed.

STS free rides
The Schuylkill Transportation System is offering Free Fare Fridays on March 8. While registered senior citizens always ride free, fare paying passengers will be able to catch a free ride on any fixed route bus on those days,

Tamaqua Drama Club
The Tamaqua Drama Club has selected the less well-known musical “Big Fish” for its spring production and is looking for donations of yellow or yellow/orange silk daffodils.
The plot of the play centers on traveling salesman Edward Bloom and his son, Will, and their relationship. As a child, Will enjoyed the fantastic stories told by his father, but adulthood has made him question many of those tales. Their relationship has become strained as Will prepares to marry. The story shifts between two time lines, the present-day reality and Edward’s storybook past. At its core, it examines the love/hate relationships within a family. It is suitable for family viewing, featuring several high-energy dance numbers and a number of mystical creatures.
Advance tickets for the public will be on sale from 9 a.m. to noon on March 9 and from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on March 12 and 13 in the Tamaqua Area Auditorium.
Performances will be 7 p.m. on March 15 and noon and 7 p.m. on March 16, in the auditorium.
Primitive Methodist
Pastor Rick Clemson will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in American Primitive Methodist Church. Sunday school classes are held at 9:30 a.m.
The board of trustees will meet at 7 p.m. on March 13.
Hope in the Mountains meetings are held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays. This is a Nar-Anon Family Group. For more information, call Mark at 570-952-5098.
