Thanksgiving help
The Tamaqua Salvation Army will host a free Thanksgiving Day dinner from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 22. Meals will also be delivered to shut-ins who register at least one week in advance by calling 570-668-0410.
Thanksgiving food baskets will be distributed between noon and 6 p.m. on Nov. 20 for those families who preregistered.
Christmas food baskets, Toys for Tots and Angel Tree distribution will be held from noon to 6 p.m. on Dec. 20.
The Salvation Army is located at 105 W. Broad St., Tamaqua.
Tamaqua seniors
The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met Nov. 1 at the Tamaqua YMCA with 45 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker opened the meeting with the reading of “Brighter Day.”
Margie Skymba, Eleanor Sidoriak and Gloria Lack were all welcomed back. Pat Brown was added to the sick list. The meeting for Nov. 8 was canceled.
Reservations are now being taken for the annual Christmas party, which will be held on Dec. 13.
Refreshments were served.
The group is open to anyone 55 or older, meeting at 1 p.m. every Thursday at the YMCA.
Honoring veterans
The Tamaqua Area Middle and Senior high schools will observe Veterans Day with a brief assembly at 7:25 a.m. this Friday. Participants will meet at the flagpole in front of the senior high.
The public is welcome to attend the ceremony.
Diaper depot
Families with infants and toddlers, living within the Tamaqua Area School District, are the focus of a new family ministry at Zion Lutheran Church.
Zion’s will be distributing free diapers on the third Saturday of each month, by appointment only. Proof of residency, but not financial status, photo identification and preregistration are required. Registrations are now being accepted for the Nov. 17 distribution date.

Bethany EC
The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.
Also on Sunday, TYM Remix staff will meet at 11:45 a.m.
Activities for the next week include: Monday, Celebrate Recovery women’s training at 5 p.m., Celebrate Recovery men’s training at 5:15 p.m., Celebrate Recovery meets at 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday, TYM Remix meets at 6:30 p.m., GriefShare meets at 7 p.m., worship practice is at 8 p.m.; Thursday, women’s group meets at 7 p.m.; Saturday, church work day starts at 9 a.m.
Primitive Methodist
Pastor Rick Clemson will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in American Primitive Methodist Church. The service will include a Veterans Day observance. Sunday school classes are held at 9:30 a.m.
Hope in the Mountains NFG are held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays.
The board of trustees will meet at 7 p.m. on Nov. 14.
