Holiday help
The holidays are just around the corner, and the Tamaqua Salvation Army stands ready to help those in need through its holiday food basket and Angel Tree programs.
The last day to register for Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday assistance will be Oct. 11. Hours will be from noon to 6 p.m. for residents of the Tamaqua Area and Panther Valley school districts.
Proper identification and proof of need are required. Registrants MUST provide proof of residence, such as a utility bill; Social Security cards for every household member; proof of all household income, including employment/wages, public assistance, food stamps, Social Security/SSI, and any other type of income; official birth certificates for anyone under the age of 12 (born between Jan. 1, 2006, and Dec. 31, 2018); expenses, such as rent/mortgage, utilities, food, medical, etc.; and a working phone number. There will not be a makeup date.
Hometown auxiliary
The Hometown Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary will hold an election of officers at the Nov. 5 meeting, which will be held at Basile’s Restaurant on Route 309.
Members are currently taking orders for Krispy Kreme doughnuts, which will be distributed on Oct. 21, in time for the all-you-can-eat breakfast. Deadline to order is Oct. 15.

Tamaqua seniors
The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met Oct. 4 at the Tamaqua YMCA with 47 members and one guest, Robert Werley, in attendance. President Melody Weicker opened the meeting with the reading of “The Sun Will Shine Anew.”
Nancy Gerber and Jean Machamer were added to the sick list.
New member Janet Solomon was given a warm welcome.
The meetings for Oct. 25 and Nov. 8 have been canceled. September and October birthdays will be celebrated at the Oct. 18 meeting.
The group is open to anyone 55 or older, meeting at 1 p.m. every Thursday at the YMCA.
Bethany EC
The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.
Also on Sunday, TYM Remix staff will meet at 11:45 a.m.
Activities for the next week include: Monday, Celebrate Recovery women’s training at 5 p.m., Celebrate Recovery men’s training at 5:15 p.m., Celebrate Recovery meets at 6:30 p.m.; Tuesday, airbrush painting group meets at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Bible study at 1 p.m., TYM Remix meets at 6:30 p.m., GriefShare meets at 7 p.m., worship practice is at 8 p.m.; Thursday, membership matters committee meets at 7 p.m.; Saturday day bus trip to the Museum of the Bible.
Primitive Methodist
Pastor Rick Clemson will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in American Primitive Methodist Church. Sunday school classes are held at 9:30 a.m.
Hope in the Mountains, a Nar-Anon Family Group, meetings are held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays.
Remembrance Sunday will be observed on Oct. 21.
