Tamaqua news for Oct. 12

Bloodmobile

An American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be held in Tamaqua on Friday at the Tamaqua YMCA.

Anyone 17 or older who weighs at least 110 pounds and is in good general health is eligible to donate blood.

To schedule an appointment time, call 800-733-2767 or visit www.RedCrossBlood.org/Tamaquacommunity.

Preregistered donors are now able to streamline the process a bit by completing the pre-donation reading and health history online before heading to the Bloodmobile. Visit www.RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass on the day of your scheduled visit.

The Y is located at 1201 E. Broad St.

Walk-ins are welcome.

Halloween parade

Registrations are now being accepted for the annual Tamaqua Halloween Parade, sponsored by the Tamaqua Lions Club. The parade is scheduled for Oct. 24, and will begin at 7 p.m.

Deadline for registrations is Oct. 17.

Forms are available at the Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce office, 37 W. Broad St., on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Older and bolder

The Tamaqua Salvation Army’s Older and Bolder group meets at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays at the Salvation Army. The group also participates in additional activities throughout the fall/winter session.

The next activity is the Diakon Senior Expo at the Fairlane Village Mall on Oct. 17. STS transportation is available.

Calvary Evangelical

Chris Blevins will be the special guest at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

The film “Facing Darkness,” the true story of Franklin Graham/Samaritan’s Purse, will be presented at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 15. The public is welcome to attend.

The next prayer meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 18.

St. John Lutheran

The Rev. Richard Hinkle will officiate at this Sunday’s 9:15 a.m. worship service in St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Also on Sunday, the bell choirs will meet at 11:30 a.m. Sunday school and Confirmation classes will meet at 10:30 a.m.

Activities for next week include: Thursday, angel choir rehearses at 6 p.m., shepherd choir meets at 6:30 p.m., property committee meets at 7 p.m. and chancel choir practice is at 7:30 p.m.

The fall rummage sale will be held Oct. 17 and Oct. 18.

Zion Lewistown

Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Zion Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school will be held at 9:15 a.m.

Also this Sunday, a LuLaRoe fundraiser will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to benefit Valley Christian Preschool.

St. Peter’s Union

The Rev. Kenneth Buckwalter will officiate at the 9 a.m. Sunday at St. Peter’s Union Church in Mantzville. The service will include an offering for the Hurricane relief Fund. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class meets at 11:15 a.m., Cub and Girl Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.

Next week’s activities include: Monday, church board meets at 6 p.m.; Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m., Women’s group meets at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, cherub choir meets at 6:30 p.m., junior choir rehearses at 7 p.m., senior choir practice is at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, apple dumpling pickup from noon to 5 p.m.
