Andreas parade

The West Penn Township Lions and Lioness Clubs, along with the Andreas Sporting Club, will host the Andreas Halloween Parade at 7 p.m. Oct. 17, with the rain date set for Oct. 18.

Deadline to register for the parade is Oct. 12. Only those preregistered are eligible for monetary prizes.

Parade formation begins at 6:15 p.m. at the Andreas Sporting Club. A representative from each entry must be present at the sporting club after the parade in order to receive any prize. All judges’ decisions are final.

Refreshments will be served after the parade, to participants only.

Tamaqua seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met Sept. 27 at the Tamaqua YMCA with 38 members and one guest, Thelma Paul, in attendance. President Melody Weicker opened the meeting with the reading of “A Fresh New Day.”

Norma Baker and Mary Herbig were added to the sick list.

The meetings for Oct. 25 and Nov. 8 have been canceled. September and October birthdays will be celebrated at the Oct. 18 meeting.

Refreshments were served.

The Oct. 4 meeting will include a pizza party.

The group is open to anyone 55 or older, meeting at 1 p.m. every Thursday at the YMCA.

College aid

The Tamaqua Area School District will sponsor a financial aid night on Oct. 10 in the Tamaqua High School Auditorium.

The informational session will begin at 6 p.m. Representatives from PHEAA and the Schuylkill Area Community Foundation will be available to discuss financial aid for college as well as local scholarship opportunities.

Junior and senior class students interested in pursuing any form of postsecondary education, and their parents, are welcome to attend.

No preregistration is required. The session is open to the public.

Dems meeting

The Eastern Schuylkill Democratic Club met Sept. 24, welcoming 54 new members.

The club is open to residents of Tamaqua Borough and the areas of Rush, Schuylkill, Walker and West Penn townships.

Members will be manning a station at the Tamaqua Heritage Festival on Oct. 14.

The group meets the fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Tamaqua Elks Lodge. The next meeting will be held on Oct. 22.

Animal blessing

Zion Lutheran Church will conduct a Blessing of the Animals on Saturday. The service will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Owners are responsible for proper control and any accidents by their pets.

The church is located at Mauch Chunk and Greenwood streets.

Primitive Methodist

Pastor Rick Clemson will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this World Wide Communion Sunday in American Primitive Methodist Church. Sunday school classes are held at 9:30 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the monthly service at the Hometown Nursing Center will be held at 6:30 p.m.

The board of trustees will meet at 7 p.m. Oct. 10.

Hope in the Mountains NFG are held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, there will be a Scenic Sundae event along the Lehigh Canal.

Activities for the next week include: Monday, Celebrate Recovery women’s training at 5 p.m., Celebrate Recovery men’s training at 5:15 p.m., Celebrate Recovery meets at 6:30 p.m.; Tuesday, airbrush painting group meets at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Bible study at 1 p.m., TYM Remix meets at 6:30 p.m., GriefShare meets at 7 p.m., worship practice is at 8 p.m.; Thursday, membership matters committee meets at 7 p.m.
