Tamaqua Halloween

The 52nd Annual Tamaqua Halloween Parade will be held Oct. 23. Sponsored by the Tamaqua Lions Club, the parade will begin at 7 p.m. at the east end of town.

Registration forms are available online at the Tamaqua Halloween Parade Facebook page, by calling 570-778-6663 or by emailing bkeich@yahoo.com.

This year’s Grand Marshal will be Allen Keich.

The parade will assemble in the parking lot at the Tamaqua Plaza, 1215 E. Broad St., Tamaqua (former Jamesway lot). All entries must be in place no later than 6:30 p.m.

Deadline to register is Oct. 18.

Rain date is Oct. 24.

Veterans Day

Tamaqua American Legion Post 173 will host Tamaqua’s annual Veterans Day Parade on Nov. 10. The parade will form at the east end of Tamaqua and will start at 10 a.m.

Spirit of Christmas

It’s never too early to begin planning for Tamaqua’s annual Spirit of Christmas Festival.

A planning session will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Pine Street. Anyone interested in helping plan the weekend’s events is welcome to attend.

Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush-Ryan-Delano Senior Citizens met Sept. 25 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 45 members and guest Janet Solomon in attendance. President Robert Neifert conducted the business session after opening the meeting with the invocation “Amazed.”

Upcoming events include: Oct. 15, trip to Mohegan Sun in Wilkes-Barre; Oct. 26, shopping in Reading with a meal at the Brickerville Restaurant.

Refreshments were served.

The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at the Ryan Township Fire Company in Barnesville and is open to anyone 55 or older.

TEPTO

The next meeting of the Tamaqua Elementary Parent Teacher Organization will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The meeting will be held in the school library.

Soup social

Trinity United Church of Christ, 22 Lafayette St., continues its free, monthly soup social with the next event scheduled for Saturday.

Free soup and fellowship will be available from 4 to 6 p.m.

Participants are asked to use the lower parking lot entrance to the church social hall.

Zion Lewistown

Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Zion Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m.

Upcoming events include: Tuesday, fundraising committee meets at 6:30 p.m., preschool board meets at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, OWLS meeting at noon.

Zion’s fall conference will be held Oct. 12 and 13.

St. John Lutheran

The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. Sunday service in St. John’s Lutheran Church. The service will include Holy Communion.

Also on Sunday, the bell choir will rehearse at 8 a.m., Sunday school and Confirmation classes will meet at 10:30 a.m.

Next week’s activities include: Monday, Welsh cookie pick up from 4 to 6 p.m., church council meets at 7 p.m.; Thursday, angel choir meets at 6 p.m., shepherd choir rehearses at 6:30 p.m. and chancel choir practice is at 7:30 p.m.

Calvary Lewistown

The Rev. Susan Moore will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will include Holy Communion. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, an evening service and Bible study session will be held at 6:30 p.m.

A prayer meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

St. Peter’s

The Rev. Dr. Bonnie Bates will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this World Wide Communion Sunday at St. Peter’s West Penn Church, Mantzville.

Also on Sunday, breakfast will be served after worship and the Girl Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.

Next week’s activities include: Monday, play rehearsal at 6 p.m.; Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m., called to care committee meets at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, retirees meet at 10 a.m., Confirmation class is at 5 p.m. Thursday, cherub choir meets at 6:30 p.m., junior choir practice is at 7 p.m., senior choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.
