Girl Scouts

The Tamaqua Brownie and Daisy troops will begin regular meetings this Sunday at Zion Lutheran Church.

Daisy Troop 31210 is open to girls in kindergarten and first grade, while Brownies is for girls in second and third grades.

The meeting will be held from 6 to 7 p.m.

The church is located at 101 Greenwood St.

TEPTO

The Tamaqua Elementary Parent Teacher Organization will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The meeting will be held in the Tamaqua Elementary School Library.

Anyone interested in supporting the students is welcome to attend.

Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met Sept. 26 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 50 members and guests Helen Trimmel and Rita Thompson, in attendance. President Bill Morrison conducted the business session and provided the inspirational reading “Amazing.”

Muriel Andescavage, Mary Taylor and Doris Yeager were added to the sick list.

Two guest speakers, Schuylkill County District Attorney Christine Holman and Joan Breslin of the Schuylkill Transportation System, are scheduled for the Oct. 10 meeting.

September birthdays were celebrated, honoring Rose Vallee, Jane Tarter, Ruthann Feane and Robert Neifert.

Upcoming events were discussed, including an Oct. 13 trip to the Mohegan Sun Casino in Wilkes-Barre; Dec. 12, Christmas party at Capriotti’s in McAdoo.

The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at the Ryan Township Fire Company in Barnesville.

Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.

Calvary blessing

Calvary Episcopal Church, 300 W. Broad St., Tamaqua, will hold a “Blessing of the Animals” service at 9:45 a.m. Sunday.

A second “blessing” will be held outdoors, after the 11:15 a.m. worship service.

Light refreshments will be served.

Owners are responsible for proper control and cleaning up after their animals.

St. John Lutheran

Guest pastor the Rev. Fred Crawford will officiate at this Sunday’s 9:15 a.m. worship service in St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Also on Sunday, the bell choir will rehearse at 8 a.m., Sunday school and Confirmation classes will meet at 10:30 a.m.

Activities for next week include: Monday, Welsh cookie pickup from 4 to 6 p.m., church council meets at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, learning ministry meets at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, angel choir rehearses at 6 p.m., shepherd choir meets at 6:30 p.m. and chancel choir practice is at 7:30 p.m.

Calvary Evangelical

The Rev. Phillip Sabas will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, an informal devotional and singalong will be held at 6:30 p.m.

The next prayer meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Oct. 11.

The film “Facing Darkness,” the true story of Franklin Graham/Samaritan’s Purse, will be presented at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 15. The public is welcome to attend.

St. Peter’s Union

The Rev. Kenneth Buckwalter will officiate at the 9 a.m. new member service this Sunday at St. Peter’s Union Church in Mantzville. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class meets at 11:15 a.m., Cub and Girl Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.

Next week’s activities include: Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m.; Wednesday, retirees meet at 10 a.m., junior choir rehearses at 7 p.m., senior choir practice is at 7:30 p.m.

Zion Lewistown

Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Zion Church, Lewistown Valley. Sunday school will be held at 9:15 a.m.

Next week’s activities include; Tuesday, fundraiser committee meets at 6:30 p.m., preschool board meeting is at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, OWLS meet at noon.
