Diaper depot

Families with infants and toddlers, living within the Tamaqua Area School District, are the focus of a new family ministry at Zion Lutheran Church.

Zion’s will be distributing free diapers on the third Saturday of each month, by appointment only. Proof of residency, but not financial status, photo identification and preregistration are required.

Each 50-pack bundle of diapers will also come with a pack of wipes. Participants will be provided one bundle of diapers per child, per month, subject to availability.

Zion’s is located at Mauch Chunk and Greenwood streets.

Tail on the trail

Tamaqua-area residents are welcome to join the Panther Valley cheerleaders and St. Luke’s Miners Community Health program on Monday at the Panther Valley Stadium in Lansford.

St. Luke’s President Wendy Lazo will lead the walk, which will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Walkers will be able to enjoy fresh produce from Leiby’s Farm in the Lewistown Valley, as well as infused water.

The next local Walk With a Doc event will be held on Oct. 11, starting at St. Luke’s Internal Medicine facility between Pine and Railroad streets in Tamaqua. Dr. Joanne Calabrese will lead the 5 p.m. walk, which will be held in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Members of the Lehigh Valley Chapter of Pink Heals, along with their pink ambulance, will provide information on breast health.

Soup social

Trinity United Church of Christ, 22 Lafayette St., continues its free, monthly soup social with the next event scheduled for Oct. 6.

Free soup and fellowship will be available from 4 to 6 p.m.

Participants are asked to use the lower parking lot entrance to the church social hall.

St. John Lutheran

The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. Sunday service in St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Also on Sunday, the bell choir will rehearse at 8 a.m. Sunday school and Confirmation classes meet at 10:30 a.m.

The choirs rehearse on Thursdays, angel choir at 6 p.m., shepherd choir at 6:30 p.m. and chancel choir at 7:30 p.m.

St. Peter’s Union

The Rev. Kenneth Buckwalter will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday at St. Peter’s Union Church in Mantzville. The service will dedication of the Confirmation class. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, Girl Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.

Next week’s activities include: Monday, play rehearsal at 6 p.m.; Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m.; Wednesday, Confirmation class meets at 5 p.m.; Thursday, junior choir practice is at 7 p.m., senior choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.

New member Sunday will be celebrated on Sept. 30.

Calvary Lewistown

The Rev. Susan Moore will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, a time of singing, praise and Bible study will be held at 6:30 p.m.

The next prayer meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 26.
