Walk with a doc
The next local Walk With a Doc event will be held on Oct. 11, starting at St. Luke’s Internal Medicine facility between Pine and Railroad streets in Tamaqua. Dr. Joanne Calabrese will lead the 5 p.m. walk, which will be held in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Members of the Lehigh Valley Chapter of Pink Heals, along with their pink ambulance, will provide information on breast health.
Hometown auxiliary
The Hometown Fire Company Auxiliary will meet Oct. 1 at Basile’s Restaurant on Route 309 in Hometown. The business meeting will begin at 7 p.m., but members are welcome to come early, at 6 p.m., for a Dutch treat dinner.
New members are always welcome.
Church leadership
The Tamaqua Ministerial Association and Tamaqua Area Faith and Fellowship Network will sponsor a workshop on the “Myth of the Good Old Days” from 9 a.m. to noon on Oct. 6 at the Tamaqua Community Art Center, 125 Pine St. Guest speaker will be Dr. Jill Peters, a member of the faculty at Moravian Seminary in Bethlehem.
The workshop is designed for lay leaders and clergy as it focuses on church leadership.
There is no fee, but registration is required, with a deadline of Oct. 3.

Primitive Methodist
Pastor Rick Clemson will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service on Sunday in American Primitive Methodist Church. Sunday school classes are held at 9:30 a.m.
Hope in the Mountains NFG are held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays.
Zion Lewistown
Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday at Zion Church, Lewistown Valley. Coffee and pastries will be available before the service.
Sunday school will be held at 9:15 a.m.
Activities for next week include: Thursday, apple tart making at 10 a.m., guild meets at 6 p.m.; Saturday, turkey and waffle dinner from 4 to 7 p.m.
St. John Lutheran
The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. Sunday service in St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Also on Sunday, the bell choir will rehearse at 8 a.m. Sunday school and Confirmation classes meet at 10:30 a.m.
Activities for next week include: Tuesday, worship and music committee meets at 3:30 p.m.; Thursday, angel choir meets at 6 p.m., shepherd choir rehearses at 6:30 p.m., chancel choir practices at 7:30 p.m.
The church rummage sale will be held Oct. 2, 3 and 4; Welsh cookie baking will be done on Oct. 5, 6 and 7, with cookie pickup is on Oct. 8.
St. Peter’s West Penn
The Rev. Kenneth Melber Jr. will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this New Member Sunday at St. Peter’s West Penn Church, Mantzville. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.
Also on Sunday, Girl Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.
Next week’s activities include: Monday, play rehearsal at 6 p.m.; Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m., worship and music committee meets at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, cherub choir meets at 6:30 p.m., junior choir practice is at 7 p.m., senior choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.
World Wide Communion Sunday will be celebrated on Oct. 7.
Bethany EC
The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.
