Walk With a Doc
St. Luke’s Health Network will hold a “Walk With A Doc” event this Thursday. The 1-mile walk will start at the Hometown Rural Health Center, 34 S. Railroad St. (near the library). Walk leaders will be Dr. Gregory Dobash and Dr. Sonya Elnagger.
The walk will begin at 5:30 p.m. with Dr. Dobosh providing a brief discussion on the opioid crisis, along with a demonstration of how to use naloxone (Evzio).
Walkers will be able to take home free, fresh vegetables provided by Leiby’s Farms.
Rain will cancel the walk, which is an approved “Get Your Tail on the Trail” event.
Hometown auxiliary
The Hometown Fire Company Auxiliary will meet Sept. 10 at Basile’s Restaurant on Route 309 in Hometown. The business meeting will begin at 7 p.m., but members are welcome to come early, at 6 p.m., for a Dutch treat dinner.
New members are always welcome.
Chamber concerts
The Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce has added several shows to its 12th Annual Summer Concert Series, continuing the shows into late September. The next event will be held this Thursday, featuring Carbon Boxcar, a four-piece band covering rock ’n’ roll’s top hits.
The concerts are held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on the platform at the Tamaqua Train Station. All events are weather permitting.
The rest of the schedule includes: Sept. 13, Vinyl Persuasion, a trio offering acoustic versions of hits from the ’60s and ’70s; Sept. 20, It Takes Two, top 40s and rock ’n’ roll classics.

Tamaqua seniors
The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met Aug. 30 at the Tamaqua YMCA with 52 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session after opening the meeting with the invocation “God’s Lighthouse.”
Helen Trimmel was added to the sick list and Jim Sands was welcomed back to the group.
The meeting included a birthday celebration, honoring: Nancy Gerber, Kathleen Valentine and Sun Lee Malick.
Refreshments were served.
The group is open to anyone 55 or older, meeting at 1 p.m. every Thursday at the YMCA. The next meeting will be held this Thursday.
Bethany EC
The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.
Activities for next week include: Monday, Celebrate Recovery women’s training at 5 p.m., Celebrate Recovery men’s training at 5:30 p.m., Celebrate Recovery meets at 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday, TYM Remix meets at 6:30 p.m., worship practice is at 8 p.m.; Thursday, Baptism class at 7 p.m.
Recovery service
The Tamaqua Ministerial Association and Tamaqua Area Faith and Fellowship Network are sponsoring a “Celebrate Recovery” service on Sept. 16 at 223 E. Broad St. The ecumenical service will begin at 7 p.m. and will include praise and worship, testimonies from people in recovery and hope and encouragement from God’s Word.
