Tamaqua open house features breweries
The Tamaqua Historical Society will host an open house this Saturday featuring a large, special art exhibit detailing “Coal Region Breweries.” The event will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. in the museum annex, 114 W. Broad St., Tamaqua.
The reception is free, open to the public, and is just one element of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the discovery of anthracite coal.
The art exhibit will encompass 150 years of coal region brewing history and features a replica vintage bar, more than 80 antique beer trays, vintage beer barrels, kegs, cases, a moonshine still, Tamaqua brewery artifacts and much more.
In addition to the exhibits, three current regional craft brewers will offer beer tastings. They include the Conyngham Brewing Company, Pilger Ruh Brewing from Pine Grove and the soon to open Revere Brewing Company, which plans to open next to Sisters Cantina on East Broad Street, Tamaqua.
Several period re-enactors will add to the “flavor” of the event, complete with music on an old player piano.
Snacks and light refreshments will be available, including items for those not old enough to imbibe or who prefer something other than the craft brews.
