Workers at the Tamaqua Wabash Bridge Project site on West Broad Street were back to using shovels Monday to move mud. A stone pile at the southwest edge of the site caused speculation that the stone arch had partially collapsed. The weekend brought more than an inch of rain to this area, causing the Tamaqua Wabash Bridge Project site to flood. That led some to speculate the stone arch had partially collapsed.
Workers from J.D. Eckman Inc., the firm hired for the project, were busy early Monday morning running pumps to take care of the excess water, saying the flood was expected due to the forecast.
The work was ahead of schedule, so the weekend’s flooding is not being seen as a set back as it won’t put the project behind schedule.
