Tamaqua Transfer & Recycling Inc. wins bid
Tamaqua Transfer & Recycling Inc. was awarded a three-year contract to collect garbage and recyclables in Tamaqua beginning on July 1.
There will be a change in the garbage collection schedule next week due to the Independence Day holiday. Garbage will not be collected on July 4. Thursday’s garbage route will be collected on Friday, while Friday’s route will be collected on Saturday.
Residents are reminded that there is a limit of six garbage bags and one bulky item per household each week. Quantities greater than those amounts may not be picked up. Garbage bags cannot weigh more than 50 pounds each, and bulky items cannot weigh more than 275 pounds each. Items that exceed the weight limit may not be picked up. There are no limits on the amount of ashes or recyclables that can be placed out for collection.
The borough’s previous garbage collector, County Waste, is collecting the recycle bins that they provided free-of-charge at the beginning of their contract. Residents are encouraged to use the blue recycling containers that they were given previously. If you no longer have the blue recycling crates or bins, recyclables may be placed loose in a garbage can, or any open container. Recyclables that are placed in garbage bags may not be picked up. The new collector will accept the same commingled materials for recycling.
