Teen admits assault at youth forestry camp

A Delaware County teen pleaded guilty in Carbon County court on Monday to charges of simple assault and terroristic threats for an incident at a youth forestry camp.

Anthony Nasir Harris, 18, of Clifton Heights, entered the pleas before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.

Harris was charged by state police at Lehighton for an incident at the Camp Adams facility in Penn Forest Township that occurred on June 4. Harris was involved in an altercation with another resident of the camp when camp personnel intervened to break up the fight.

Harris then turned on them and a struggled continued with two camp employees sustaining injuries. Trooper Justin A. Swartz then arrived on scene and assisted in bring Harris under control. During that struggle Harris attempted to bite Swartz.

Harris was placed in the camp by Philadelphia juvenile court on other criminal charges. Harris has been an inmate in the county prison since the incident.

Nanovic sentenced him to time-served (50 days) to 18 months in jail and ordered he get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations and follow any recommendation for treatment, get his GED diploma, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.
