Teen gets 7 to 20 years in stabbing death stemming from feud

SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) — A teenager has been sentenced to seven to 20 years in a stabbing death last year in northeastern Pennsylvania that authorities said stemmed from an online feud.

Seventeen-year-old Cathleen Boyer was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty to third-degree murder in July.
Boyer was 16 at the time of the May 2016 stabbing death of 18-year-old Kayla VanWert in Scranton.
Authorities in Lackawanna County said they fought after meeting in an alley to settle a feud on Facebook over the father of VanWert's 1-year-old daughter.
Defense attorneys had contended that Boyer acted in self-defense.
