For many, it’s a chance to revel in the sheer magnificence of the holiday season.

That’s part of the allure to the third annual Walnutport Tree Lighting Ceremony, which will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the recreation center, 215 Lincoln Ave.

Presented by the Walnutport Recreation Committee, 46 trees will be featured at the event, according to Jennifer Wentz, recreation board chairwoman.

Wentz said Santa will arrive by 3:30 p.m.

“Every child who visits Santa will get a candy cane and some other goodies,” Wentz said. “There will be crafts the children can work on while there, along with balloon creations/animals.”

Wentz said there will also be hot chocolate, juice, hot dogs and popcorn.

She said the event’s top attraction — the actual tree lighting — will take place between 5 and 5:30 p.m.

Wentz said money raised from the event will benefit the Walnutport Borough Recreation Board, and will be used to fund future projects.
