PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Police say an elementary school teacher in Philadelphia has died after suffering injuries during a house fire.

Authorities say 62-year-old Shelia Hawkins died Sunday after she was rushed to a hospital with third-degree burns.

The fire was first reported to emergency responders around 8 a.m. that day. Police say four people were inside the home in the city’s Roxborough neighborhood including Hawkins, her daughter, son-in law and their son.

Neighbors used ladders to rescue those inside the home. WPVI-TV reports firefighters were able to get the blaze under control by 8:10 a.m.

Shelia Hawkins taught third-grade at Shawmont Elementary School. Officials say she has been a teacher at the school since 2004.

The fire is still under investigation.
