The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that District Court Judge A. Richard Caputo has sentenced Jared Andrew Novy, 39, of Jim Thorpe to 30 years in prison for the production of child pornography.

According to U.S. Attorney David J. Freed, Novy pleaded guilty to production of child pornography in July 2018, and admitted that he produced multiple videos and images of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Novy previously pleaded guilty and was sentenced in Carbon County to state prison on related sexual abuse crimes involving minors. He was sentenced by Judge Joseph J. Matika to serve a total of five years, 11 months to 12 years.

The charges stem from an investigation conducted by Homeland Security Investigations – Philadelphia Division. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle Olshefski prosecuted the case.

In addition to the prison term, Judge Caputo ordered that Novy by supervised by a probation officer for 10 years following his release from prison. Novy will also be required to comply with the registration requirements of the Sexual Offender Registration and Notification Act (Adam Walsh Act) upon release from prison.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
