Three area swimmers are top seeds for district meet

Three Times News area swimmers have earned top seeds for the upcoming District 11 championships.

Marian’s Danny Berlitz and Maddie Dando, along with Panther Valley’s Emily Newton, are all No. 1 seeds.

Berlitz, who gained two gold medals at the Schuylkill League meet, is first in two events — the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:56.70, and the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:38.44.

Dando, who also captured two first-place finishes at leagues, is the top seed in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.16. She is also seeded third in the 200 IM (2:22.73). Newton’s time of 1:12.59 in the 100 breaststroke places her first in the event. The Panthers’ freshman, who also gained a gold at the league meet, is sixth in the 200 IM (2:27.59).

Tamaqua has earned a pair of No. 2 seeds. Lexi Kerstetter is second in the 200 freestyle (2:04.33) and is part of the Blue Raiders’ 400 freestyle relay team (3:59.21) that trails only North Schuylkill. Kerstetter also sits in the No. 3 spot in the 100 backstroke (1:01.60). Also third is Tamaqua’s 200 medley relay (1:58.43).

One other area swimmer, Panther Valley’s Jacqueline Kokinda, is a top-3 seed. Kokinda is third in the 500 freestyle (5:42.18). She is also fourth in the 200 free (2:08.99).

Other Times News swimmers seeded in the top six include:

Tamaqua’s Olivia Stanek (fifth in 100 butterfly, 1:04.90), Sarah Maue (sixth in 100 breaststroke, 1:18.12), and Brianna Dumond (sixth in 500 freestyle, 5:53.54); Palmerton’s Nick Caldwell (fifth in 50 freestyle, 23.39); and Northern Lehigh’s Ben Lehman (sixth in 200 IM, 2:15.78, and sixth in 100 breaststroke, 1:07.58).
