Towamensing grants conditional OK for Woods project

Towamensing Township’s board of supervisors granted Woods Campground conditional approval on an addition, provided that a previous project is completed before new construction begins.

Eric Snyder of Keystone Consulting attended the Thursday meeting with a request for preliminary and final approval for a clubhouse on the Woods Campground property. Supervisor Guy Seifert was initially wary to grant a motion due to unfinished business from a previous expansion project at the campground.

“We had an issue with this project, in that things were not done from the last revision. So where are we with that?” Seifert asked.

Snyder responded that the previous project was granted an 18-month extension that will run until August.

Seifert requested the overall expansion project, which began around six years ago, be completed before the clubhouse project begins. The project has included the addition of campsites, access roads, water lines and more.

Work on the stormwater basins, channels, a spillway to a main stormwater basin and some roadwork have yet to be finished.

“They’re probably 85, 90 percent there. But I guess they’ve had issues with the weather,” engineer Greg Haas said.

Snyder said that he believed the campground owners intended to have the previous work completed by the opening of the season, with the intent to begin the clubhouse project in the fall after closing.

“We’ll grant conditional approval of this preliminary and final plan for the Woods Campground, on the conditions that they have the certificate of ownership and acknowledgment plan statement provided, have a land development agreement developed and approved by both parties, have the security, either a line of credit or a bond, put in place for $10.917.50, and all previous improvements are completed, in toto, prior to this plan starting,” Seifert said.

Satisfied with the requirements of the conditional approval, the board voted in favor of the motion.
