The Towamensing Volunteer Fire Company officially has a chief.

The board of supervisors of Towamensing Township swore Stephen Riggio in to the position at its meeting last week. Riggio has been serving in that capacity since the fall and was nominated by the fire company to continue in the role last month.

“It pretty feels good,” the 25-year-old chief said after taking oath.

Riggio joined the fire company at 14, but when he took over late last year, he inherited a struggling company. Riggio said the apparatus is still trying to rebuild its ranks, and that it currently has nine active members.

“We could still use the help,” he said. “We’re just trying to get the members, get the fire company up and running again.”

The fire company will be hosting a craft show and silent auction on March 21. The event will start at 9 a.m. and end at 3 p.m. It will be held at the firehouse on 105 Firehouse Road in Towamensing.
